TAUTOLOGY

AN ENCOUNTER ON THE LANGUAGE/PROCESS OF ART

@

HFBK Gallery

concept

'TAUTOLOGY'-Greek:ταυτολογία- in propositional logic refers to a formula that is satisfiable as 'true' in under at least one individual interpretation and per se every possible interpretation. Thus this act of happening from a collective effect the process/event and changes the result/space it takes place. This is where the contingency of subject and object collide. Enormous hybridity and multiplicity form a covalent unity. A work of Art can touch a such kind of transcendental state by approaching a collective process of interpretation from the individual propositions.

So, This exhibition will examine a collective effort and evolution through the process of art making, reshaping of perception and speculation of meaning making agendas in postmodern culture. A collective effort can reach in a result that lye inside the change itself as a form into forms of the new subject. More specifically, Questioning the normative notions of art with a combind effort will be the goal of the exhibition.

Some sets of question/discussion that could form a visual unity for the concept'Tautology', I suppose are following:

-Could an artist with his art piece ask an ontological question about the nature of art?

-Can it have an elliptical view on art and the human evolution?

-Could one piece go beyond it's materiality and left the idea as it is?

-Can it go beyond it's profundity by destroying its own AURA?

-Can intension of a piece be so fluid as being deterritorialized and reterritorialized at the same time?

-Is it possible to come up with an idea that can collide the dichotomy of subject and object?

-Can a work propose a process of open aesthetics that has subliminal characters instead of pretentious beauty?

-Can a screen mirrorify individual/ collective or it rather obscures the nowness?

-How a work of art can interact with the age of automation and surveillance?

-How we determine a 'form' or

'material' when we use it for a piece as conceptualists refer signifier and signified to dictate the material in oppose to the physical one?

-Can moving images and performance solve the problem of being the switching centre for all influenced networks or they just celebrate their ephemeral quality?

......................................

[These are only some examples of question that forms a unity we could think about; we would come up with more questions and ideas, problems and possibilities of present art happenings through the discussions and individual intension of working. Therefore, this is not a rigid frame by any means for the show.]

This process oriented exhibition is planned, initiated and curated by Sohorab Rabbey.

process

Exhibition is aiming to make an interaction, collaboration and discussion between the artists currently studying/working in HFBK hamburg, who are interested to work on a collective. In this regards, It is also an experiment of figuring out a language or a dynamics of praxis that HFBK is incorporated with.

Artists who express in a way that experiments the new Language and conceptual aspects of 'Art', who questions the boundary of art happening right now and deny the conventional vision of art and philosophy, He who wants to create a new form of freedom through their works of art are mainly targeted for the show and discussion.

As part of the process, there will be individual and group discussions, interaction between the artists: helping to realise each others idea and evaluation to bring them in one point- that could create a interconnected and dynamic trace of the process in the exhibition.
